In 1938, the Longyear contract drilling department started using castset diamond bits. Almost immediately after Longyear had the bits in the field, the sales department began receiving inquiries from around the world about the availability of the diamond bits.

As our surface-set diamond bit technology advanced, Longyear brand bits were used around the world. In the 1960s, the Longyear™ Q™ wireline took the industry by storm, opening the door to the widespread adoption of Longyear drilling tools and consumables.
