RQ® Coring Rods

THE ORIGINAL DEEP HOLE ROD

Launched in 1999, RQ™ rods introduced engineered interlocking joints to the industry and quickly became renowned for their strength and reliability, setting many regional coring depth records.

STRONGER

Coarse RQ threads (3 threads per inch) and a 10-degree reverse angle load flank provide an interlocking joint with increased strength. Finer RQ™TK threads provide high performance for Thin Kerf wireline systems. A load efficiency of 50% provides higher strength for demanding applications.

LASTS LONGER

Longer lasting rods means getting more meters per rod and replacing rods less often, directly adding value to the bottom line.

Pin Case Hardening

Other drill rods are typically hardened to 38 HRC. Boart Longyear coring rods are pin case hardened to maximum hardness – 60 HRC, creating a significant difference between pin and box and minimizing rapid galling that other threads experience. In repeated “make and break” field testing, other non-case-hardened rods were shown to fail at between 12 and 100 cycles, whereas RQ joints withstood more than 300 cycles.

Boart Longyear’s W-Wall™ feature patent-pending, double-upset tubing, up to 30 percent lighter, thanks to its thin-walled mid-body. The lighter drill string increases drill rig depth capacity and reduces fatigue when manually tripping. The enlarged inner diameter also increases wireline tripping speed by 50% for improved productivity. On an 800 meter hole, simply changing from straight wall to W-Wall rod can save 2 shifts or put 20% more core in the box

W-Wall coring rods with the standard wall thickness in the middle of W-Wall rod eliminates premature mid-body wear and resists bending, performing like straight wall tubing.
